Allie Starts Soccer

When Spring started approaching, I thought about Spring soccer. We had some friends who had put their kids in soccer for the Fall, and they had mentioned a Spring season. Allie has seen some of my soccer pictures and expressed interest in playing. It melted my heart when she said, "I want to play soccer, Mommy. I want to be just like you." Soccer is my favorite sport, and it thrills me to have my daughter play. As she gets older, we want her to be able to explore different sports and activities (music, dance) so that she can find her own passion. If soccer ends up being her passion, hooray! But if it is something else, hooray! But for now, soccer is exciting to her, and it is the right price ($15 for the Spring season, including getting a t-shirt).

When I told Allie that we were going to sign her up for soccer, she was ecstatic. Then she said something that cracked me up, "But Mom, I want to play when I'm fifteen." I'm not sure where that came from, but I assured her that she could play now, as well as when she was fifteen, if she still wanted to. Her excitement grew as we purchased shin guards, soccer socks, a ball, and cleats. Some pictures from before her first practice capture some of her excitement.

Before First Practice

Two Thumbs Up

At Practice - It was a cold, windy day.

A short video from her first practice.

Watching 3- and 4-year-olds play soccer is pretty entertaining. They don't completely get the idea of the sport, yet, and they surely don't understand working as a team. They are also easily distracted, especially our sweet Allie. We laugh quite a bit as we watch them. And they have a good time, which is the most important thing.
"Passing" at Second Practice

Allie's first soccer game was on April 13th. It was the first game, ever, for most of the little kids. Allie was pretty cute to watch. At times she would run around like she was a horse (on two feet). At other times, she'd pick up dry grass and then toss it in the air or to the side. She didn't touch the ball much, but she had a blast.

She had another game on April 20th.

Rachel enjoying snacks while watching her sister. She looks forward to playing soccer in the future. When she sees the fields, she yells, "Soccer!"
