4th of July 2012

We were all excited for the 4th of July. We got back home after Maria's wedding on the 3rd, and due to Jared needing to be in Springfield, Missouri early July 5th, we had about 24 hours at home before heading up to Springfield as a family. Jared's company paid for the hotel and a rental car, so it was a fun opportunity to take a little trip as a family. Springfield is only about 2.5 hours from our place.

But before taking off on the fourth, we got the girls dressed for the special day. We received an outfit for Rachel at her baby shower. I really looked forward to putting her in it. And we received a dress for Allie from another family in our Stillwater ward. Their daughter had outgrown it, and we were lucky to inherit it. I think our girls were absolutely adorable on the fourth of July.

This picture reminds me of a model posing.  Allie can rarely be found so demure.

And what says, "Happy Birthday America," more than Jack Johnson? Well, I'm sure there are many more things, but we did take a few minutes to dance to Jack Johnson.

We let the girls sleep in the car for their afternoon nap. And then we made it to our destination in Missouri. Rachel had fun with the luggage cart.

We had no idea where in Springfield we would watch fireworks, but luckily the front desk lady told us where we could go. There is a minor league baseball team (associated with the Cardinals, I believe), and though they weren't playing that night, there was a concert and fireworks at/near the stadium. The concert was in the stadium, but the fireworks were staged about a block and a half away. We killed time before the show by walking around Springfield a little. They have some nice park areas. It seems like a nice little place. We were told that the fireworks would start at nine, so we made it back near the car and where we were going to watch the show a little before then. It did not start on time, so we waited.

And waited.

Saw a very cool, orange, full moon. I wish I could have got a better picture, but I still like this one.

And then they finally started around 45 minutes later.

Rachel only had a moment of being scared. She didn't cry, as far as I remember anyway.

We all enjoyed the show.
