Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain...
So we got tired of being the BYU-Idaho Vikings and decided to move up a few decades and become Cowboys. Jared wanted to keep going to school - crazy kid. The area of mechanical engineering that he is interested in (robotics and automation) is a relatively new field. BYU-I only has one course in it, so in order to learn more, more schooling was needed. We applied just about everywhere... well, yeah, it was just about everywhere. We were turned down by a few places, and didn't hear from some others. Until one day the gods smiled down and said, "Oklahoma state wants you. They'll give you a job, reduce tuition, and give you insurance." We were excited, thrilled even. :) However we still needed to hear from Lincoln-Nebraska and see what sorta goodies they would give us. We were accepted, however they wouldn't know what type of offers they would give us until June and OSU needed to know this month. Long story short... we are leaving the blessed "Zion" of Rexburg and moving to be with the "Gentiles" in Oklahoma... ok not Gentiles... just cowboys (that's the school's mascot)... :) We're hoping to help make the farmer and the cowman to be friends (it's one of the songs from "Oklahoma") We're super excited, we think we have a place to live over yonder. We'll be packing and moving the end of July/beginning of August. One of our only fears is Allie picking up the accent when she starts talking. It can't be that much worse that an Idahoan accent right? We'll keep y'all posted on our trek East.

yay!! congratulations! I hope she doesn't pick up the accent...that IS a scary thought! =)
ReplyDeleteOOHHH Congratulations!! I am sooo happy for you!!! woopie! Yay for new and exciting adventures. It sounds like they really did want him with all those nice extras. I hope you like Oklahoma. I went there once, it was so FLAT. We'll miss seeing you occasionally, but I'm sure our paths will cross again - especially since we are probably going to live forever at the center at the universe, Salt Lake City. =P
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I'm glad Jared found somewhere where he will be able to succeed! Oklahoma can't be that bad. You will end up liking it I bet, and I hope Allie doesn't pick up the accent.
ReplyDeleteDoes Maria live in OK? Congratulations. I much prefer a cowboy accent to and ID accent any day. Hey, you're going to be a lot closer to us now.
ReplyDeleteYes, Maria is in OK. She lives about an hour or so south of where we will be (We will be in Stillwater, OK and she is in Moore.) Maybe we'll make it down to Texas sometime. It would be fun seeing you and your family, Lynda!
ReplyDeleteThey joys and excitiment of leaving Rexburg. I love it here but eventually you need to move on. Sean graduates next month and got a job offer in Albuquerque New Mexico and that means we're moving this summer after we have the baby. We've never been and don't know a soul, so it will be an adventure.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your new adventure!
Oh, you will love Oklahoma and Stillwater! It is a great place and the people are awesome. I mean, I am from there, right? Be sure to go to Eskimo Joe's and have some dinner!!
